Fig Leaf hosted a creative and technical session with DCPS key stakeholders to identify audiences, understand user concerns and discuss technical infrastructure issues. Working together we identified key audiences, tasks they might perform and information they may seek:
- Students - curriculum information, instructional information, homework assignments (integrate with Blackboard)
- Parents – I am new - how do I enroll; where is the closest school; what is the schedule; school lunch; what happens if I have a problem; weather related issues; schools-out references; resources like summer camps and summer schools; special programs; grades and scholarships; No Child Left Behind information; information on getting involved; on standards for students; student fare cards and transportation information
- Teachers - a way to lay out curriculum, standards of learning, lesson plans and homework assignments (integrated with Blackboard) professional development information, how to become a DCPS teacher
- Employees – handbooks; leave policy; any regulations and policies; professional development opportunities
- Community - particular interest in special education, interested in DCPS history, relationship to Federal government, showcase for student materials, grant opportunities
- Media - press releases, Superintendent testimony, media kits
- Vendors - necessary forms or policy documents
Following the creative session, Fig Leaf delivered a creative brief along with new information architecture recommendations. Following review and approval, Fig Leaf created and delivered design compositions and then a functional prototype so that key stakeholders could experience the new site design before it was implemented within Adobe Contribute. Fig Leaf implemented the new site using Contribute Publishing Services and provided hands-on training for DCPS staff tasked with maintaining the new site.
