NYCEDC Intranet Google Enterprise Search
Solutions: google search, custom feed connector
Vertical: corporate, government, non-profit

New York City Economic Development Corporation's (NYCEDC) mission is to encourage economic growth in each of the five boroughs of New York City by strengthening the city's competitive position and facilitating investments that build capacity, generate prosperity and catalyze the economic vibrancy of city life as a whole.

Fig Leaf Software was engaged by NYCEDC to configure and implement Google Enterprise Search to replace their Verity search solution.  The new Google Search solution would integrate with their content managed intranet/portal as well as several database and web applications.

Fig Leaf installed and configured the Google Search hardware/software in the NYCEDC environment and replaced the Verity search solution already in place.  Fig Leaf created two custom search interfaces on top of the new Google Search solution.  The first simple search allows users to search across the enterprise by collection such as specific department, employee manual, press digest, etc.  The second is a querry by example (QBE) interface for press releases that allow users to choose by publication name (such as New York Times), by category, date range and reporter name.

Fig Leaf also built a keymatch system for staff lists so users can perform querries such as "MIS Staff List" and get results with all staff members.  Fig Leaf built a custom feed connector between the Google Appliance and the customer's Content Management System (CMS) to allow the organization to crawl the employee manual to find specific content, utilize keymatches, collections, metadata, feeds and custom date formats.

The intranet search launch was a resounding success. In approximately sixty hours (60) Fig Leaf's Certified Google Enterprise Engineer crawled all of the organization's content, set up the two interfaces and integrated with their CMS so that PDFs tagged with metadata could be searched using a taxonomy of terms in a check box style interface.
