What is Usability Testing?
Visually stunning design excites users. But users don’t use stunning visuals. They use navigation. They interact with page layouts. They share information. You can have a truly impressive web design and still lose your target audience. If the navigation isn’t intuitive, the page layout is cluttered, or the information is misleading or hard to understand, your visitors may leave.
At Fig Leaf, we emphasize the importance of usability. Usability starts with listening to your audiences. Your target personas, especially, have a lot to say, and your design and architecture should prove that you hear them. When we redesign websites and applications, we listen in many ways.
- Review website analytics
- Host online surveys
- Conduct stakeholder interviews
- Lead focus groups
- Conduct user testing
The feedback we gather guides strategic navigation and layout decisions, and is the basis for how we make sure the choices we make together are the right ones for you and for your users. We use a suite of tools to translate what your users tell us. Personas, and use cases capture key stakeholder identities. Site maps and wireframes outline the relationships between important user experience elements. A straightforward, clear usability analysis document ties it all together so everyone is in agreement before we start coding.
Our Creative Director, Tracey Dunn, is an HFI Certified Usability Analyst and our design team members are usability experts, so you don’t have to choose between great design and great usability. At Fig Leaf, we believe you should have both.
